A major East Coast storm is possible late this week, and it may just be coldenough in the higher elevations of the Appalachians for snow!Thursday, a storm will weaken as it tracks toward the central Appalachians.Energy from this storm will then be transfered to a new coastal storm nearNorth Carolina Thursday night. This coastal storm will then rapidly intensifyoff the coast by early Friday as it tracks northeastward.

The eventual track of this storm will be crucial as to how much rain andsnow will fall in the Northeast but, right now, it appears that the majorcities of the Northeast will receive a heavy, windblown rainstorm Thursdaynight into Friday.

A heavy, wet snow could fall in the northern Appalachians above 1,500 feet, especially from western Maryland to New York state Thursday night into Friday.

With leaves still on the trees, the heavy, wet snow could lead to downed treesand power lines. Stay with Accuweather.com for further updates on thisstorm.
