Photos: Readers share images from Nye's Polonaise Room Instameet

LAST CALL: It's a sad day in Northeast Minneapolis — Nye's Polonaise Room ends its 67-year run today. Since Nye's announced the closing in late 2014, there's been no shortage of people going through the landmark for one last polka, cocktail and photo. Actually, a lot of photos. The Nye's farewell tour has been a social media gold mine, culminating in an Instameet last weekend coordinated by @northeastminneapolis and @mncommunity. People at the event captured images from every corner both inside and out, and creating and revisiting memories. Like Instagrammer @lordhamlet73 said: People make the places. Here are a handful of photos from the Instameet; to see more, search for #bestofnempls_nyes on Instagram.

Gallery: Backyard eggs fill the baskets with color

There's no need to dye eggs this time of year when there are chickens in backyard coops throughout Minneapolis doing the job just fine. Devon Anderson and Michael McNally of Minneapolis have three hens, including Laura, a barred rock hen who's peeking out of her coop. They collect eggs ranging in color from blue and brown to cream. Phyllis Kahn raises hens on Nicollet Island, and one of them produced this peach-speckled egg. A cuckoo Maran kept by Dan Brady and his neighbors in northeast Minneapolis gave us the brown-speckled egg. The small, cream-colored egg is from the barred rock hen kept by Scott Horne and Margie Siegel of Minneapolis.
