Shakopee's playing Santa again — in hopes of getting a few dozen new jobs.
The City Council last week agreed to grant a property tax break for a firm called Compass Data Centers, which proposes a computer data storage facility in town.
The Scott County board on Tuesday will consider the company's request to the county during an informal workshop, county officials say.
And the Shakopee council will hold a public hearing on a proposed business subsidy package for the same project on May 7. That package would total about $120,000.
The Shakopee council approved the deal after hearing from its senior staff that the complex is expected to employ at least 40 people and perhaps as many as 65. The smallest wage to be paid is $14.50 an hour plus benefits. The average annual pay is to be $68,500, according to the terms of the deal.
The tax abatement portion of the agreement comes to about $251,555 over nine years.
