Some serious foot care

Some serious foot care Wigwam Mills spins its latest socks with natural fibers from sheep and worm. The plush Mountain Air is one example of a sock from the Wisconsin company (www.wigwam.com) that employs merino wool (the sheep part) and silk (the worm part) to create a cushioned hybrid sock with reinforced heel and toe areas. Made for hiking and general outdoors use, the Mountain Air, which costs $17 a pair, has a seamless toe closure and a durable feel on the foot.

And from Bridgedale Outdoor of Northern Ireland, the Control Fit Ski Socks, available later this year for $22, have "friction-free slide zones" at the ankle and heel to let you pull into a tight boot with ease. They also have "triple density cushioning" on the shin and calf to protect your legs while schussing. Bonus: A three-year guarantee on the socks' durability means you can send them back for a new pair if they wear out before 2012.
