GREEN BAY, Wis. — Leland Baenen (BAY'-nen) was at the historic Ice Bowl in 1967 when Green Bay hosted Dallas for the NFL championship, and he can't remember a single play.
As a member of the Brown County Auxiliary Police, Baenen was in charge of keeping fans under control — and away from coach Vince Lombardi. He tells WFRV-TV (http://bit.ly/1ARWf2I ) he had more important things to do than watch football.
Fans braved 13 degrees below zero temperatures at kickoff that Dec. 31 to watch the Packers win their third straight NFL title.
As the fans went crazy near the end of the game, Baenen was ordered to save the goal post padding and let the fans tear it down, then to form a human fence to get Lombardi and the players through the crowd.
