Harty Mary Agnes, age 88, of St. Paul, formerly of Lake City and Blooming Prairie, on 12/29/01. Preceded in death by husband, Harris; son, Thomas H.; sisters, Ethel Lohse, Helen Whelan & Margaret Angvik; brothers, Paul & Chester Coggins. Survived by children, Kathleen Harty, M. Patrick (Renee) Harty, Mary J. Harty, Donald Harty & Daniel Harty; grandchildren, Nicolle (Wade Gulbransen), Shavonn (Terry) Eastlee, Erin & Patrick Harty, Brittany & Bryana Norblom; 2 great-grandchildren, Aidan Eastlee & Maxwell Hartson; 2 sisters, Rita (Quentin) Marsh & Jean (Richard) Meyer; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was a pioneering educator. She earned a two-year teaching certificate from Winona Normal School and later earned her four-year teaching degree from Mankato State Univ. Her career spanned teaching country school at age 19 to winning an award for Teacher of the Year in Steele County. She taught in private and public school systems in southeastern MN. The family would like to thank the staff at the Episcopal Church Home and the doctors and staff at Regions Hospital for their compassionate care. An Irish Wake will be held 5-8 PM Wednesday at Kathleen's residence, 1444 Hartford Ave., St. Paul (651-699-9590). Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday at ST. STEPHEN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2211 Clinton Ave S., Mpls. (612-874-0311). Visitation one hour prior. A luncheon reception will follow the Mass. Private interment.
