Berne Donald Paul, age 84, of Minneapolis, originally of Cincinnati, OH. He died peacefully December 16, 2001 concluding many years of living with Alzheimer's disease. Co-founder with wife Harriet, of Berne Equipment Company in 1961, operating today as Berne Scale Company. Don served his country in Europe during WWII. He had a life-long love and appreciation of our natural world, exhibited in many ways including gardening, conservationism, amateur geology and serving as a Boy Scout Leader. HIs creative and inquisitive nature was demonstrated through his many inventions. Survived by wife of 58 years, Harriet (Hopkins); children, Jay, Chris & wife Liz Quam, Ann Berne-Rannow & husband Jim, all of the Minneapolis area; and Jane of Grand Forks, ND. Proud grandfather of Michael & David Rannow, Ben Quam, and Tony & William Berne. Final arrangements private. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at Lake Harriet Christian Church Lounge, 50th St. & Beard Ave., Mpls., on Saturday, December 29 from 2:00-4:00 PM. Memorials preferred to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 3475 Arboretum Dr., Chanhassen, MN 55317.
