Donald L. Fabian

Fabian Donald L., age 83. Born July 5, 1919 in Chicago, the son of William & Edith (nee Born) Fabian. He died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN. Don was the husband of the late Evelyn Arnold Farrell and is survived by his sister, Betty (Ray) Gaitsch; step-children, Susan Farrell, John (Anne) Farrell, Carla Farrell Frazier; nephews, David, Bruce and Tom Gaitsch, Bill and Lou Fabian; step-son, Jamie Frazier. Donald's brother, James died in 1998. Don was valedictorian of his class 1937 at Main Township High School in Des Plaines, IL and received his BA, MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. He taught Spanish language and literature there and at Tulane University, in Puerto Rico, at Southern Methodist University, and at Macalester College from 1965 until his retirement in 1984. His passion was grand opera and Don traveled the world attending more than 400 different operas during his lifetime. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, Dec. 5 in the Weyerhaeuser Board Room, Macalester College, 62 Macalester St., St. Paul, MN. Interment Lakewood Cemetery.
