Joseph Ernest Doescher

Joseph Ernest Doescher, born December 15, 1931 in Mpls to parents, Grace and Ernest Doescher, died peacefully at home Thursday, November 21, 2002 after a courageous battle with heart disease and cancer. Preceded in death by parents. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 yrs, Dorothy; sons, Joseph Doescher and Dane (Lisa) Doescher; daughter, Jill Doescher; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild all of MN; twin sister, Janet Petroni of Phoenix. Joe attended Mpls Southwest High School and the University of MN, graduating with degrees in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In 1954, Joe joined General Electric in Schenectady, NY, serving until 1961. Joe and family returned to Minnesota, where Joe spent several years as an independent manufacturer's representative. In 1965, Joe joined the Minnesota firm Electric Machinery, where his compassion and wisdom earned him the company's presidency. In 1983, Joe purchased X-Cel Optical Company, a St. Cloud eyeglass lens-manufacturing firm, where he presided as CEO until his death.
