Jerde Randolph J. of Burnsville died Thursday, at the age of 82, following a brief hospitalization. He is survived with loving memories by his wife, Norma; and sons, Paul of Boulder, Colorado, and Jeffrey of Burnsville, and their wives and children. Randy is also survived by his brother, Waldo of Whitehall, Montana; and sister, Enid of Alexandria, MN. Randy's brother Desmond, of Britton, SD, passed away in June of this year. Randy was born on July 31, 1920, in Britton, SD, the son of Edward Jerde and Ruth Quigstad. He graduated from Britton HS and attended Concordia College. During WWII he worked at the Naval Supply Depot at Port Heuneme, California. Randy and his wife of 56 years, Norma A. Ostroot, were married in 1946, and they lived initially in Brownton, MN. For many years Randy represented the Benson Quinn Grain Company in eastern South Dakota and Western Minnesota. During the majority of these years the family lived in Watertown, SD and later, Sioux Falls, SD. His visits to dozens of small town grain elevators meant the untangling of financial ledgers and the infusion of marvelous humor and good will. His growing span of business acquaintances during those years became a wide circle of close and loving friends. Randy retired from Benson Quinn in 1978, and he and Norma moved to Burnsville at that time. Randy will be remembered by his family and wide community of friends for his kindness, gentle nature, and integrity, and for his continuous lively sense of humor and dry wit.
