French Charles H., age 85, Brooklyn Center, died peacefully at home surrounded by family Nov. 4, 2002. He had a lifelong commitment to civil and human rights. He served 15 years as a minister in the American Baptist Church. He then joined the Minnesota Human Rights Department where he worked until he retired in 1982. He became an active member of the Minneapolis area Free Thought community, and was honored by the Humanists of MN, the MN Atheists and the Freedom From Religion Foundation of Madison, WI. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Jane (Richard) Bovard, Fargo, ND, Don, San Francisco, Doris French and Alice (Richard) Fowler, Chanhassen, Nancy French, Plymouth, Robert, Minneapolis and Pam French (Kent Carlson), Shorewood; stepchildren, Clay (Mary Lynn) Oglesbee, Northfield, Jeff Oglesbee, Minneapolis, Brent (Holly) Oglesbee, Bowling Green, KY, Sondra Oglesbee, Brooklyn Center; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, Nov. 29 at the First Unitarian Society, 900 Mt. Curve, Mpls. In lieu of flowers, memorials to donor's choice are preferred.
