Mary McEvoy, 49, preceded in death by father, William McEvoy; sister and best friend, Jane McEvoy. Survived by her husband, Jamie Cloyd; daughters, Clare and Becca; and son, Luke. Also, Mary is survived by her family which include her mother, Alice McEvoy of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Peggy McEvoy of Knoxville, TN; Kay McEvoy-Smith (Tar Smith), Atlanta, GA and Babs McEvoy, St Paul, MN; brother, Charles McEvoy (Christine), Lexington, KY; mother-in-law, Rachel Cloyd, Nashville, TN; and father-in-law, James Cloyd, Nashville, TN; brothers-in-law, Joe Gigante, Nashville, TN, Steve Cloyd (Cindy), Marion, AR; and David Cloyd (Kathy), Prentiss, MS; sisters-in-law, Bobbi Sue Fertig (Les), Lubock, TX; Patsy Taylor (Wilson), Hartsville, TN; nieces and nephews, Kitsy and Erin Smith, Kiera and Alicia McEvoy, Isabelle and Cecilia Gigante, Katie, Robby, Kerry, and Molly Wadhams, Cody McKinyen, Joe Cloyd, Rachel and Michael Taylor, Brooks and Jimmy Cloyd, Carrie Beth and Greg Fertig; and also her Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada family. Mary was an academic treasure who received her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. She was a full professor in Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She was the associate director of the state Democratic Party. Mary was dedicated to many causes which were designed to create a more just and peaceful world. This dedication was demonstrated by her leadership in the International Council for Exceptional Children, the Division of Early Childhood; director of the Center on Early Childhood Education Development; coordinator of early intervention services at the Institute of Community Integration. Mary died doing what she loved, making a positive difference in the world championing for women and children. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 28 at Sheraton Four Points Hotel located at 400 N Hamline, St Paul from 7-9 p.m. The memorial service will be held at St. Lukes Catholic Church located at 1079 Summit Ave. at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29. There will also be a memorial service at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, North Central Ave., Knoxville, TN at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 27. Memorials preferred to McEvyoy/Cloyd Children's Education Fund, St. Anthony Park Bank, 2265 Como Ave, St Paul. Grieve not... nor speak of me with tears... but laugh and talk of me as though I were beside you. I loved you so... 'twas heaven here with you.
