Nelson Edwin H. Nelson, age 78, was released from great suffering by death on Oct. 4, 2002, at Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was preceded in death by parents, Martin & Esther Nelson; and siblings, Eva and Lawrence Nelson. He is survived by brothers and sisters, Rev. Robert Nelson, Annette Dahl, Virginia & Howard Martin, Margaret Robinson; nieces and nephews, John and Peter Nelson, Karla Dahl, David Martin, Pat and John Shortall, Timothy Martin, Candace Martin, Michael and Hazel Martin, Andrew & Melissa Martin; 19 great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. He is also survived by his ``family'' in Canada: Renee & Charlie Barker, Jenny & Tim Rinneard, Kenny & Debbie McGowan, Lenny & Mia McGowan, Penny & Chris Marroukis, and their children who call him ``Uncle'' or ``Grampa.'' Edwin served in the US Navy as a signalman on the troop carrier USS Gen. John Pope during WWII. He drove streetcars from the Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company until buses took over; then moved to Toronto and worked for Toronto Transit for many years, followed by public service to ''give something back.'' His cremated remains will rest in hallowed ground at St. James Cathedral, Toronto. A memorial service is planned for Friday, October 18, 11:00 AM, at The New Church on the Northside (Bethlehem Lutheran Church), 2200 Fremont Ave N., Mpls. Memorials are preferred to Ed's favorite charity, designated for ``Dr. Stephen and Peggy Foster, SIM - USA, Box 7900, Charlotte, ND 28241``. (SIM = Serving in Mission, a family of interdenominational believers in spreading the Good News through service).
