Survived by daughter, Deborah Jiang Stein of Mpls; son, Jonathan (Theresa Kintner-Stein) Stein of Mpls; brother, Robert Stein of Roswell, GA; sisters, Elenore Freedman of Bedford, NH, Muriel (Martin) Barzelay of South Hampton, NY; brothers-in-law, Peretz Dworsky of St. Louis Park and Mischa Dworsky of Minnetonka; sisters-in-law, Bella Moore of FL and Marion Dworsky of CA; grandchildren, Xiaoye, Liang, Jeremy, Taylor and Madeline; niece, Dorrie and nephews, Hal and Doug. Arnold was the Sir William Osler professor Emeritus of English at John Hopkins University. Professor of English at Univ. of MN, Univ. of WA, John Hopkins Univ., and Univ. of IL, Champaign. He was the author of numerous books on John Milton, John Dunne, George Herbert and his own poetry. Arnold received the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Ford Foundation Fellowship.
