Betty J. Noland Munson, age 74, resident of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday September 17, 2002 at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center. Betty Jeanette Skjerseth was born March 18, 1928 on the family farm near Brocket, ND, the daughter of Gunder T. and Borghild (nee Nyland) Skjerseth. She was raised and attended country school in the area. She attended Lakota High School, graduating in 1947. She married Robert Noland on November 30, 1947 at Long Lake, MN. They lived in North Dakota for a short time before they moved to Hopkins, MN, where they raised a family. They moved to Barnum, MN in 1976, where they owned and operated a Culligan Water Franchise. Robert Noland died on February 26, 1990. Betty moved to Lakota, ND in 1990. She married Arvid Munson on May 4, 1991 at Lakota. Betty was a member of Lakota Lutheran Church, and was actively involved with quilting, Lakota WELCA and other church activities. She was also a volunteer at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center, where she had recently become a resident, due to her health. Betty will be deeply missed by her husband Arvid Munson of Lakota, ND; 5 children, Robert (Donna) Noland of Lowell, MA, Sandy (Ken) Nelson of Maple Grove, MN, David (Renee) Noland of Minnetonka, MN, Barbara (Mark) Morford of Shorewood, MN and Michael (Jean) Noland of Grand Forks, ND; 2 step-children, John Munson of Jamestown, ND and Ruth (Rodney) Stevens of Lakota, ND; 16 grandchildren, Jason Noland, Nicole Bass, Jessica Sandberg, Casey Busch, Christina Noland, Anna Noland, Brenna Noland, Jeanette Morford, Anthony Morford, Nathan Noland, Lee Noland, Jennifer Ryan, Ken Munson, Karolyn Walter, Rachel Quam and Michael Stevens; 9 great-grandchildren, Carie Bass, Christopher Bass, Justin Sandberg, Elizabeth Ryan, Klae Ryan, Colton Ryan, Emily Ryan, Cody Ryan and Grace Quam; 2 brothers, Thor (Clara) Skjerseth of Lakota, ND and James Skjerseth of Lakota, ND; 3 sisters, Gladys Dahl of Lakota, ND, Ruth (Harold) Severson of Lakota, ND and Bonnie McClary of St. Louis Park, MN; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Robert Noland, grandson Ben Morford, brother Peter Skjerseth and sister Gudrun Peterson. Visitation will be held at Kapala-Glodek-Malone Funeral Chapel, 7800 Bass Lake Road, New Hope, MN, on Monday September 23, 2002 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Following the visitation, interment will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Crystal, MN.
