McCartney Kimberley P. McCartney, age 47, of Monticello, passed away peacefully and with dignity, in the arms of her family, on Wednesday, September 11, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Lutheran Church of Monticello (9300 Jason Avenue; intersection of County Road 118 and School Street). Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello. Kim was born on June 26, 1955 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She lived in Minnesota for most of her life, and in Monticello for 24 years. Kim graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a degree in anthropology and worked on archelogical excavations. Beloved wife of Michael Melstad, Kim was a devoted and unselfish mother and wife. Kim was an active volunteer in the Monticello community, and a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Kim's family was the focal point of her life; she touched all those around her with love and kindness. She never gave up in her two-year fight with cancer, and will always, always be remembered for her spirit, which lives on. Survived by her husband, Michael Melstad; their four children, Christian (Joan Bennett), Anna, Austin, and Evan McCartney-Melstad; her mother, Broatch Haig; sister, Shannon Simper; and brother, Charles McCartney. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles McCartney. Honorary casketbearers will be the members of Kim's support group: Yvonne, Della, Sue, Betsy, Bobbie, Alyssa, Dale, Jane Schultz, and Jane Thompson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA Association of Professional Directors Emergency Assistance Fund, the Park Nicollet Cancer Center, or Resurrection Lutheran Church, Monticello.
