Emmett Johnson was born September 21, 1928, and went to be with the Lord September 8, 2002, after many years of battling cancer and congestive heart failure. Emmett is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy; son, Keith (Brenda); step-sons, Steve Karo (Tammy), Rob Karo and Scott Karo (Tali); and grandchildren, Brianna, Brooke, Bjorn, Nick, Ross, Sarah, Aaron, Bryce, Alexander and Sebastien; brothers, Wallace (Delores), Marvin (Susan); sister-in-law, Char; many cousins, nephews and nieces. Emmett was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil; and wife, Darlene. Emmett pastored churches in Wentworth, WI, and Elim Baptist in Minneapolis. He was Executive Ministry for the Minnesota Baptist Conference for 10 years, and Director of Evangelism for American Baptist Churches USA for over 12 years. After a medical retirement, he worked part-time as Coordinator for Renewed for Mission for the American Baptist Churches for another three years. Visitation will be on September 11, 2002 from 4-8 PM at Elim Baptist Church, 685 13th Ave NE (13th & Madison) in Minneapolis. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in St. Anthony at 10:30 AM, Sept. 12, 2002. The funeral service will be held at Elim Church (13th & Madison) at 1:00 PM, Sept. 12, 2002. Memorials are preferred. Emmett's latest project and love was for the Burma Christian Scholars, c/o First Baptist Church, St. Paul, MN or Baptist World Alliance, Bethel College and Seminary, Northern Theological Seminary, First Baptist Church.
