Dietrich, Jack Died Monday, August 31st, following a long life filled with adventures, great friendships and a loving family. Born in North Muskegon, Michigan April 7, 1924, he graduated from the University of Michigan. A fixture in the Wayzata business community for more than 50 years, he established The Wayzata Children's Shop in 1958. The store flourished under his direction; his retail skills were legendary. Jack was passionate about art and travel. He was a patron and supporter of the arts in Minnesota, serving on the boards of many organizations including The Minnesota Dance Theater, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and The Madeline Island Music Camp. But Jack's greatest joy was the people in his life. He and his wife Ann, who died in 2010, loved to cook and entertain. They travelled the world together and often celebrated their trips by hosting a party reflecting that culture's food and music. Jack continued to make friends and entertain right up until the end of his life, scuttling around his kitchen with his walker. He was a veteran of WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart as well as a Bronze Star. Memorials are preferred to The Madeline Island Music Camp Scholarship Fund. He is survived by his children: Marti, Lisa, Sarah and Paul, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A private celebration of his life will be held.
