Brown, Sylvia Dahl was born in St. Paul, MN on February 15, 1917 and passed away in Scottsdale, AZ on May 28, 2007. Sylvia was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Barth; mother and father, Hilbert and Ada Dahl; and husband, Willis Brown. She is survived by her sister, June Aanestad of Sonoma, CA; cousin, Arlene Dahl of New York, NY; son, Paul (Laurie) Barth of Chaska, MN; granddaughter, Elizabeth Barth of Chaska, MN; step-daughter Stephanie (Chris) Porterfield of New York, NY; step-son Mike (Sandy) Brown of Big Sky, MT; and her special friend and caregiver, Tammy Semtchina. Before moving to Scottsdale in 1973, Sylvia was successful in the real estate business in Minneapolis for many years. She was a winner in dramatics and represented the State of Minnesota at the National Forensic League finals; sang in the Metropolitan Opera auditions as representative of the Minneapolis Musicale; and spent several years in the cast which dramatized the daily news on WCCO radio six days a week in Minneapolis. She was also an active member of the Thursday Musicale in Minneapolis, the Symphony Guild of Minneapolis and St. Paul (now the Minnesota Orchestra), and a Board Member and Officer for three years of Athena Women's Club in Minneapolis. Once in Arizona, Sylvia spent six years on the Board of Directors at the Phoenix Symphony Association, was a member of the General Board of the Phoenix Symphony Guild, co-chairman of the Phoenix Symphony Ball in 1978, Advisor of the Phoenix Symphony Ball in 1979, spent six years (1974-1980) on the Patron's Committee of the Phoenix Symphony Association and Symphony Ball Committee. She was also a member of the Phoenix Art Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum Guild, and the Scottsdale Center of the Arts Association. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 1 at St. Barnabas on the Desert, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley. Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
