Strand, Robert W. 1922 - 2007 Formerly of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2007. Bob grew up in Eveleth, MN. Served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII in the SW Pacific. He was discharged as 1st Sergeant in 1946. During his tenure at Crookston Central High School from 1949-1984, Bob was a physical education instructor, hockey coach and athletic director. He was Central's first hockey coach (1959-1970) and athletic director (1957-l982). The highest award of his career was to receive the Outstanding Athletic Director of Minnesota Award in 1975. Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ella; son, Scott (Sarah); daughter, Suzanne; and grandsons, Matthew and Brian. Memorial service Friday, May 11, 2007, at 10:30 AM at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 4880 Hodgson Road, Shoreview, with visitation 1/2 hr. prior to the service. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bob Strand Memorial Fund, ISD 593, Crookston, MN 56716.
