Syrstad, Morris A., Sr. Age 95, formerly of Maplewood, passed away July 30, 2015. Preceded in death by wife Lorraine; daughter Sharon Bauer; infant grandson, Brad Thomas Syrstad; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by children, Laura (Ed) Bauer, Moe (Carla), Cindy (Andy) Piccione, Tom (LeAnne) and Julie (Dan) Skalko; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Allen and son-in-law, Bill Bauer. Morris joined the Army in 1940 and spent 2 1/2 years stationed at Fort Snelling, where he met his wife Lorraine. In 1943 he was called into the 99th Infantry at Camp Hale, volunteering for the OSS as a paratrooper overseas and becoming a member of NORSO. He jumped into France during the invasion of Normandy, 60 miles behind Germany lines. After the war, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad and in 1948 he worked at John Wood Superior Metal and also hauled hams onto trucks for Swift as a night job. In 1949 he started at Armour, where he became a welder and in 1952 worked at US Bedding until 1972 when he then worked at Petroleum Maintenance until retirement. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 5 at THE CHURCH OF ST. PETER, 2600 N. Margaret St., North St. Paul. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
