McMillan, Norman H. Age 90, of Edina, Founding partner of McMillan/Doolittle. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Sherman McMillan; children, Mary (Mark) Birkeland, Elizabeth Sherman McMillan and Thomas (Susan) Hockridge McMillan. 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; other relatives and friends. He spent his professional life developing and executing strategies for the companies he was associated with. His great knowledge of the retail industry kept him in demand as a speaker for major retail industry organizations. Norm's entire career was focused on the retail customer's needs. As executive VP of Corporate Planning and Development for Household Merchandising he developed and implemented strategic marketing programs for Vons Supermarkets and Discount Hardware & Variety stores. While at Target Stores in the 1970's he was VP for Strategic Planning and was instrumental in initiating a turnaround and putting in place a long term strategic plan. He was a Senior Marketing Officer at NW Ayer & Sons in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to that, he worked at Hormel in Austin, MN. He is a graduate of the University of MN and Central HS in Minneapolis. He is the author of several management publications. And three books in the hospital field. He was a director of Griffith Laboratories Inc. and has served on many other boards including; the San Francisco Ballet, major hospitals in Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Chicago. As well as Worldwide Inc, and Arby's Franchise Association. He was also the Visiting Council of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Biological Sciences. He was a member of the Rhododendron Society in Philadelphia. And spent 2 years in the US Navy. He was a member of the Colonial Church of Edina. Flowers are welcome - memorials preferred to donor's choice.
