Hyslop Moses M., 88, of Pleasant Street, Schenectady, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2002 at St. Clare's Hospital, in Schenectady, New York. Born in Coleman, Alberta, Canada, he was a son of the late David & Agnes McDickson Hyslop. Moses immigrated to the United States at the age of six. His family settled in Donnybrook, North Dakota and then Royalton, Illinois. As as sixteen year old boy during the Depression, Moses left home to better his life from that of a coalminer's son. He settled in Schenectady in 1950 and was a 52 year resident of the area. Prior to his service with General Electric Company from where he retired, he served as manager of the Canteen Vending Company of Pittsfield, Mass. Moses was a 50 year member of the Crescent-Pittsfield Lodge of the Masons. During his later years he wrote a memoir of his life in rural Illinois as a coal miner's son which was accepted into the recording archives of the Illinois Historical Society. He was predeceased by his first wife Annie Connell Johnson Hyslop. He leaves behind his second wife Margaret Herrick Hyslop, two sons and daughter-in-law, David and Sally Fefercorn Hyslop of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Christopher Hyslop of Schenectady. He is also survived by two grandchildren Kristopher Hyslop of Portland, Oregon, and Alexander Hyslop of Olympic Valley, California and Perisher Valley, New South Wales, Australia. He is survived by a step son David C. Herrick Sr. and his wife Sharon, of South Carolina, 4 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren, all of South Carolina. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc. 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Tuesday, September 3, 2002 from 10 am to 12 pm. Funeral services will begin at 12 pm (Noon) at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery, Fehr Ave., Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Clare's Hospital Foundation, 600 McClellan St., Schenectady, New York 12304-9980.
