Walsh The Rev. James Daniel, CSC. Born June 1, 1922 in Blue Earth, MN to Martin C. Walsh of Castle Wood, SD and Josephine Martin of Huron, SD, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002. He joined the congregation of the Holy Cross on Aug. 15, 1952, took his first vows on Aug. 15, 1953, and was ordained a priest on June 8, 1960. He is survived by his brother & sister-in-law, Ken & Carol Walsh of Plainfield, IL; sister, Joan Walsh Hogan; sister & brother-in-law, Josephine & Robert Higgins, both of Mpls; and sister-in-law, Frances Walsh of Atlanta. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice Johnson and brother, Martin Walsh. He served faithfully for many years in the diocese of Baton Rouge. He served at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, as chaplain at Baton Rouge General Medical Center, pastor at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in White Castle and then as chaplain at East Louisiana Hospital and the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson. He was very involved with the Knights of Columbus. He was a past grand knight, past district friar and faithful navigator for Louisiana. His priestly duties outside of the diocese included parish work in the diocese of Austin, Texas, and in the diocese of Lafayette. He was also a member of the Holy Cross Mission Band Team. He served faithfully for 42 years as a priest and would certainly be the one whom the lord greets with ``well done, good and faithful servant.'' He was currently in residence at St. Agnes in Baton Rouge and was very involved in the sacramental and pastoral life of the people. At St. Agnes, he served as chaplain to the Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus and the Cenacle prayer group for priests. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Bishop Robert Muench, bishop of Baton Rouge as main celebrant.
