Spurrier John Russell, 61, of Norwood Ave., died Sun., Aug. 18, 2002 in his home. John was born in St. Paul, MN on Apr. 18, 1941 to Russell & Alice Matter Spurrier and had been a Duluth resident since 1974. John was a graduate of the Univ. of MN in 1964 and also received his MS Degree in Fisheries in 1973. He then served in the US Navy from 1964-1969 serving on an Ice Breaker in the Artic Circle. He was formerly employed as a manager with the DNR at the French River Fisheries retiring in 2001 after 27 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and especially loved fishing and hunting at his cabin on Comstock Lake. He is preceded in death by his mother; and wife, Mary Ann in 1997. John is survived by his father, Russell of St. Paul; son, Russell of Duluth; granddaughter, Lachelle; brothers, Joseph Spurrier of Rochester, NY, James Spurrier of Burnsville, MN, Jerry of Prior Lake, MN; and his fiance, Judy McCue of Superior, WI. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with Wake Prayers at 6:30 PM Wed. in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Services will be 10 AM Thurs. in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
