Bernice Schlesinger Wolf, born October 27, 1905, Hampton, Iowa. Died Saturday, August 10, Maple Grove, Minnesota at the home of Ray and Lynne Simon Ploetz where she lived for almost two years under the loving, devoted and watchful eye of her first granddaughter, Lynne. Bernice was 96 years young! Beloved mother of Richard Wolf and Charlotte, Des Moines, Iowa; Rosalyn Simon and Larry Stewart, Pompano Beach, Florida; and Joanne Weiner and Howard, Edina. Beloved Nanau (grandmother) of ten: Lynne Simon Ploetz and Ray, Ruth Simon Reid and John, Caren Simon, Peter Simon, John Simon and Teri, Jim Wolf, Ellen Wolf, Susan Sandler and Dennis, Fred Weiner and Elizabeth, and Janet Collins. Beloved great-grandmother of twenty: Sam Korhel, Kate Reid, Robin Heelan, Joe Price, Jake Duscha; Erin, Greg and Veronica Simon; Joe, Frank, Nichelle and Alisha Simon; Tasha, Ben and Jeremy Sandler; Stefanie, Oliva and Louis Weiner; Rachel and Adam Collins; and great-great-grandmother of Jung Wolf. Bernice received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and speech from the University of Iowa in 1927, and did graduate work at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. Later that year she married Louis Wolf of Mason City, Iowa. He predeceased her in 1978 after 51 years of marriage. She was active in Mason City's local theater productions and the Jewish community, as well as other civic organizations. Her family and many friends will greatly miss Bernice for her keen mind that was totally alert to the end, for her often unsolicited and unending advice, and for the jingles she composed for loved ones on special occasions. She had a never-ending interest in people's lives whether she knew them or not, and was deeply moved by sadness or tragedy in the daily news. A celebration of her life will be held at the home of Joanne and Howard Weiner, 5224 Schafer Road, Edina, Minnesota 55436, on Friday, August 30 at 4:00 pm. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
