Nelson, Alice Ryhti age 80, of Grand Rapids, died Friday, November 3, 2006 in the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids. The youngest of twelve sisters and brothers, Alice was born on June 28, 1926 in Trout Lake, Minnesota to Emil and Emilia (Kukkola) Johnson. She grew up in Trout Lake attended school in Coleraine, graduating from Greenway High School. She attended college in South Carolina. She was united in marriage to Leland Ryhti in 1945. She was employed as a registered dental assistant in Grand Rapids for many years. She served as president of the Iron Range Dental Society for several terms and was chosen by the State of Minnesota to represent the dental occupations in the evaluation of the vocational training institutes for determining the quality of training offered. She had been a volunteer for Itasca Hospice for 26 years. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Nelson in 1986. Along with her parents and siblings, she was preceded by her first husband, Leland Ryhti in 1977 and her second husband, Robert Nelson in 2004. Survived by her daughter, Twila (George) Richter of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a special sister-in-law, Doris E. Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 11, 2006 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids with visitation one hour before. Rev. Michael L. Eckert will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Itasca Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Itasca Hospice and the First Evangelical Lutheran Church both in Grand Rapids, MN. Arrangements are by the Rowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Grand Rapids, MN.
