Thompson, Nancy Middleton December 22, 1927 - May 7, 2015 Nancy Middleton Thompson, beloved wife, mother, and teacher, died in Modesto, California, on May 7, 2015. Family, faith, and a commitment to nurturing future generations were the pillars upon which Nancy built a life of love and service. Nancy was devoted to an extended family with deep roots in the Midwest. In 1949, she began her teaching career in a third-grade classroom in Minneapolis at Miles Standish Elementary School. She met and soon married Lloyd R. Thompson, a 1943 graduate of Columbia Heights High School, in an August 1950 ceremony at Grace Baptist Church. They moved to California in 1953. Nancy spent most of her thirty-eight-year career in public education in California. The University of Arizona awarded her an M.A. in Education in 1968. Recognition of Nancy's academic excellence and professional promise led to an invitation to join a national honor society of educators, Pi Lambda Theta, in 1968. In 1976, she was also invited to join Phi Delta Kappa. She was a Life Member of both PLT and PDK. Nancy's faith was a source of strength and solace throughout her long and fruitful life. She gave generously to her church community, especially inspiring and guiding the church's young people. The nineteen children lucky enough to call Nancy mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother knew they were bathed in the quiet but intense love of a remarkable woman. Nancy is survived by her devoted husband, Lloyd; her children, Roger, Sarah, and Robert; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Allen Mortuary, 247 North Broadway, Turlock, CA 95380. Guestbook: allenmortuary.com
