Callies Victoria (Vicky) Lin Callies, age 30, died on Friday, August 22, 2003, as the result of an airplane collision in Lake Elmo, MN. Vicky was born July 13, 1973 in Marinette, WI, a daughter to Walter (Chip) Callies and Hallie Hruska. Vicky was an outstanding student. She attended Marinette Elementary Schools and graduated with honors from Appleton West High School. Vicky chose Carleton College in Northfield, MN for higher education and graduated with highest honors in 1995. In both high school and college she was an exchange student in Germany and traveled extensively through Central Europe. All through her childhood, Vicky spent part of her summer in Upper Michigan and later on, whenever she needed to get away, she came "home" to the U.P. to walk the fields with the dogs, pet the horses and stick her toes in the creek. It only took one flying lesson for Vicky to fall in love with aviation. She pursued her dream and became a Commercial pilot and a Certified Flight Instructor. At the time of her death, Vicky was employed by Wings, Inc., a flight school in St. Paul, MN. She is survived by her mother, Hallie Hruska of Marquette, MI; father, Walter Callies of Oshkosh, WI; sister, Jane (Pat) Kamm of Valparaiso, IN; grandmother, Marge Callies of Menominee, MI; fiance, Joseph Holland of St. Paul, MN; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter Callies, Victor Hruska and Florence Hruska. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Wed., Aug. 27, 2003, in Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home, Marinette. On Sun., Aug. 31, 2003, a memorial gathering will be held from 6 until 9 PM at the Auriga Restaurant, 1930 Hennepin Ave., So., Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, Victoria's family requests contributions to the Victoria L. Callies Memorial Scholarship Fund at Carleton College, Northfield, Minn.
