Thomas W. Martin

Thomas W. Martin, born December 31, 1976, died July 11, 2002 at the age of 25 in the presence of the Lord. Preceded in death by grandfather, Robert Martin with whom he had a special relationship. Survived by parents, Peggy & Larry Smith; birth father, Thomas von Kuster; brother, Warren Smith; grandmother LaBeryl Martin; uncles & aunts, Richard & Kim Martin, Fort Collins, CO, James & Gay Martin, Owatonna, Newland & Martha Smith; cousins, Matthew and Daniel Martin, Joseph and Cody Whitlock, Susan, Nathan, Debby and Patrick Martin Arthur and Jenifer, and many friends and classmates. The family thanks Dr. Vicki Thompson for her compassionate and competent care of Tom, as well as his many teachers and caregivers. Tom was a beautiful child who had cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities. He taught us that all people are precious human beings, deserving of respect & compassion. He also taught us that people with developmental disabilities deserve to achieve their full potential and become actively engaged in community life. He was intensely loved and he radiated love & trust in return. He will be greatly missed. Funeral service Monday, 3 PM, Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Road, Edina. Interment Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4-8 PM, Washburn-McReavy, Edina Chapel, W. 50th & Hwy 100, Edina and 1 hour prior to service at church.
