Bruce D. Smith

Smith Bruce D., age 47, of Austin, TX, on July 9, 2002. Death occurred at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, 7 years after the onset of colon cancer. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Bencivenga; parents, Samuel & Marian Smith, Apple Valley, MN; brother, Richard (Anne Bendel), W. St. Paul, Donald (Susan), Plymouth, MN, Kenneth (Nina), Lancaster, PA; sister, Linda (Thomas) Jancaric, Maple Grove, MN and beloved Golden Retriever, Cuatro. Bruce was born in St. Paul and received a bachelor's degree (summa cum laude) at the Univ. of MN and a Ph.D. at MIT. He authored 80+ papers in the field of economics and held professional positions at several universities in the U.S. and Canada, most recently at the Univ. of Texas at Austin. Additionally, he consulted with the research groups of 5 federal reserve banks, including that of Minneapolis. Memorial service 2 pm Thursday, July 11 at Chapel of Acacia Park Cemetery, 2151 Pilot Knob Rd., Mendota Hts (651-452-1555). Memorials may be made to the Mayo Foundation, or the donor's choice.
