Nestingen, James Kent Beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, & friend, age 52, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by family on May 27, 2006, at dawn. Jim died of complications related to primary amyloidosis, and the family is grateful to Univ. of MN Medical Center, Fairview & Mayo Clinic doctors and nurses for the special care they gave Jim since January 23rd. Born May 31, 1953 at Great Lakes Naval Base, IL and raised on a Guernsey farm between Westby and Coon Valley, WI among generations of Norwegian family, friends and neighbors. Graduate of Univ. of MN and registered as an architect and landscape architect in several states. Worked for several firms in Minneapolis and served as Director of Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center, Coon Valley, WI, from 1990-1994. Upon returning to Minneapolis, started Nestingen Design, doing small projects and collaborations in architecture, landscape architecture, and sustainable design. Career project highlights include Minneapolis Convention Center, East Plaza UMN-CALA, green grass roofs, construction & renovation of homes, offices and gardens for friends & family. Was privileged to serve on the Minneapolis Planning Commission, Hiawatha LRT Advisory Committee, Hennepin County Designer Selection Committee, and St. Peder's Lutheran Church Council. Immensely enjoyed many visits to Norway, membership in Torskeklubben, and singing with Plymouth Choir (now VocalEssence). Sons Hans & Per were Jim's greatest joy. Survived by his wife of 24 years, Leslee; sons, Hans Jurgen and Per Kristian; parents, Jerrold & Irene Nestingen of Westby, WI, sister Jan and brother-in- law John Parrott of Dousman, WI; nephew and niece, Arne & Claire Parrott; mother-in-law, Marlene Sandvig; brother-in-law, Kris Sandvig and wife Patricia of Concord, CA; nieces, Kristina, Danielle, Tara and nephew Zachary; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and neighbors. Blessed be his memory. Celebration of Life Memorial Service Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 2:00 PM at NORWEGIAN LUTHERAN MEMORIAL CHURCH (MINDEKIRKEN), 924 E. 21st St., Minneapolis. Interment at Coon Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery, Coon Valley, WI in late June. Gathering Monday, June 5, 2006 from 4:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at BRADSHAW (McDivitt-Hauge), 3131 Minnehaha Ave. S., Mpls.
