Gawlik, John "Johnnie" age 83, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 1, 2006, in his home surrounded by his loving wife, Pat, and his children, Kathleen Sovell (Jerry), Dr. John Gawlik (Sarah) and Patrice Stromberg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kerry Maahs (Chuck), Katie Welsh (Kevin), Paula Leech (Grayle), Dan Schaper, Traci Stromberg, Nicole Gawlik, Dustin Gawlik, Jesse Gawlik, Whitney Gawlik, Ashley Pierce, Taylor Pierce, Miles Sovell, Dr. Chase (JongAh) Sovell; and great grandchildren, Peyton, Keiley, Devin Maahs, Lindsey Welsh, Garrett Leech, Kai and Elli Sovell; also brother, David Gawlik; and sister, Loretta Lunzer; and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Anton Gawlik and Cecelia (Gockowski) Gawlik; two infant brothers, Chester and Joseph; and sister, Irene Ortler. John was born in Minneapolis on May 5, 1922 and lived in Minnesota his entire life. He joined the Navy in 1942 at age 18 and served in World War II until he was discharged in 1945. That same year he asked Pat to dance at the Prom Ballroom where they met and they danced through a beautiful, meaningful marriage for almost 60 years. He was a retired President of Flour City Press where he worked for 47 years. Past President of Twin City Litho Club, Alumni of Dunwoody and member of the Crystal KC's, the American Legion and Holy Name of Jesus Church in Medina. His life with Pat and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to him. He will be in our hearts and prayers forever and remembered as a very moral and gentle man. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Thursday, May 4 with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 155 Co. Rd. 24, Medina (763-473-7901). Many thanks to Hospice of the Twin Cities for their wonderful care during John's last days at home. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to PSP Society or Holy Name -- Arnies Door.
