Swanson, Clarence Wilhelm (Scotty) 92, of Edina, died peacefully on April 19th. Born 9/ 21/1922, in Floodwood, MN. Beloved son of Charles and Anna Swanson. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne (Pearl Cardinal), brother, Melvin Swanson, nephew Daniel Dugan, brother-in-law Robert Dugan, sister, Lucille Dugan, and favorite feline, Tony. Survived by daughters, Rita (Jordan Antonelli), Judy (Steve Laursen), Joanne (Annie Huide-koper); grandchildren, Brian and Andrea Twiss; sister-in-law, Florence Swanson, nephews, David, Dennis, Dale, Dean, Doug, Greg; nieces, Debby, Laura, and Nancy. Scotty grew up in Mpls and graduated from South High School in 1940. Early guidance from mentors Benjamin Pratt and Otto Nowak was gratefully remembered throughout his life. In 1945 he graduated from the U of M, Electrical Engineering. While in college, he met Jeanne and it was love at first wink. They married in 1945. Scotty's career began with the Carrier Corporation and took him to New York, Philadelphia, Des Moines and home again to Mpls in 1954. Here he enjoyed opportunities with Honeywell and the Veeder-Root Corp. His career decisions were guided by what was best for his family and he remained settled in his home in Edina to raise his children. Scotty's curiosity about how things work impelled him to pursue a series of do it yourself projects. His home and lake cabin near Grand Rapids, MN were laboratory and playground to Scotty. Dauntless and tireless, he explored carpentry, drafting, electrical work, landscaping, masonry, and plumbing, to mention but a few areas. The scope of his projects, his energy, and craftsmanship were a wonder to his friends and neighbors. When not engrossed in a project, Scotty and Jeanne enjoyed playing bridge, dancing, golf, travel, and time spent with many fond friends. After retirement, Scotty had more time for community service projects like Meals on Wheels. He was a very active member of Kiwanis and Golden K Kiwanis, serving as Regional Governor for a term. When Jeanne's health declined due to dementia, her care became Scotty's primary focus. His loving devotion was an inspiration to all who knew him. The family is very grateful to Walker Methodist Care Suites and Methodist Hospital Hospice for their care and assistance. Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, May 9th, 3-6 PM, with Eulogy at 4 PM at Cremation Society of MN, Edina Chapel, 7110 France Ave. So. 55435. 952-924-4100.
