Garvin, David Carroll (Dave) age 77, of Edina, passed with peace and grace on April 7, 2015 with his family by his side. Dave was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1938. He attended Mullin High School in Denver, Colorado where he graduated with many academic and athletic honors in 1956. Dave received a scholarship to play football at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1957. He was a member of the University of Colorado Boulder football team from '58-'60 and was an assistant coach for the 1962 Big 8 Championship team. He graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Journalism in 1962. Dave was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Judith Nolan, in 1967 in White Plains, New York. He began his career in advertising at Ted Bates and Company in New York City and moved to Minnesota in 1973, where he began his career at KSTP Television. Dave enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in advertising holding various sales and management positions at Petry, KSTP and Midwest Sports Channel. Dave was involved and engaged within the community. He served as President of both the Edina Football and Edina Baseball Associations. He was a member of the St. Paul Rotary Club and a long-standing member of the "C" Club through the University of Colorado. Dave will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather whose greatest passions were his children and sports. Much of his free time was spent coaching for his children's youth sports teams. He loved playing and watching sports, reading the newspaper, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dave's kind and gentle spirit and sense of humor will never be forgotten. Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith; his daughter Patricia (Dave); his sons David Jr., Christopher and Michael (Jennifer); his grandchildren Alexandra Mielke, Ryan Mielke, Ashley Garvin, Isabel Garvin, Abigail Garvin and Nolan Garvin and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. His parents, George and Virginia Garvin, and sister, Ginger Hines, preceded him in death. The funeral mass will take place at 12:00 pm Monday, April 13th at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 5071 Eden Avenue in Edina with visitation beginning at 10:30 am. A reception will be held at Our Lady of Grace directly following mass. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
