Ruder, Manuel H. "Mandy" age 91. Born on a farm in western North Dakota, the youngest child of an immigrant family, Mandy lived most of his life in the Twin Cities. His long career in the banking industry started in 1931, when he was hired as a messenger boy by the First Minneapolis Trust Company. He spent several years as a bank examiner with the FDIC and in 1948, he joined the American National Bank in St. Paul. He remained with the bank until 1976, retiring as a senior vice president. His proudest achievements with the bank were the establishment of a municipal bond department and a money market desk. The municipal bond department underwrote and distributed bonds throughout the upper Midwest. The money market desk greatly benefited hundreds of small town banks. During WWII, he served in the US Navy as an officer on aircraft carriers in the Pacific. He worked his way through the University of Minn and graduated in 1938. He also attended the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University and the Harvard Business School. For several years prior to his retirement, he also served on the teaching staff of St. Olaf College during their summer school sessions in cooperation with the Minnesota Bankers Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Esther, and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steven Gurstelle; son and daughter-and-law, Arthur and Elaine Ruder, and granddaughters, Emily Gurstelle and her husband, Nick Potter; Joanna Gurstelle and her fiancé, Michael McMillen, and Sheila, Laura and Andrea Ruder. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jean Litman and many nieces and nephews. Both Mandy and his family appreciated the wonderful care he received from the entire staff at the Wellington Assisted Living and Shepard Park Home Care, especially from Jennifer Davis. Their friendly care and concern made his life more comfortable during his years of blindness. Services will be at MT.
