Hietala, Lois Jeannette Age 82 of North Oaks. With a soul so pure and a heart so good, Lois passed peacefully on to eternity March 30, 2015 with her family by her side. She was much loved and touched many lives. No tribute can fully express the love and compassion she extended toward others. One of the biggest joys of her life for the past 11 years was being a grandma to her beloved granddaughter, Zoe. For Lois, literature was a love affair she shared with her dear friends in book club. She was a founding member of this club, now in its fourth decade. Lois was also a strong advocate for accessibility for people with disabilities-tirelessly advocating for installation of automatic doors, hand rails, etc., in the church. Born in Denver, Colorado, she graduated from East High and received a BA in Education from Colorado State in Greeley. She came from a family of schoolteachers. As her father and mother before her, she imbued her students with a passion for learning and living life with pride. After moving to Minnesota, she always missed the mountains, but found a close substitute in the north woods of Minnesota at the family cabin on Lake Superior. Her parents, Earl ("Pete") and Vera Evans and her sister, Charlotte Ratliff predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Allan; daughter, Gwynn Hietala-Carver and granddaughter, Zoe; sister, Pat Walkup (Jim) and brother, David "Butch" (Jill) Evans; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation Monday, April 6th, 4-7 PM at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME, 515 Hwy 96, Shoreview. Memorial Service Tuesday, April 7th 10:30 AM at WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1200 S. Marquette Ave, Minneapolis 55403. Memorials may be made to ASAP (American Syringomyelia and Chiari Alliance Project). holcombhenryboom.com 651-482-7606
