George Garrelts

Garrelts George, 85, died Monday, July 14, 2003 at home in Erie, PA. Born Feb. 24, 1918 in Quincy, IL. Ordained a Catholic priest in 1942 in St. Paul, MN. Served for 30 years chiefly as Chaplain at the Newman Center at the U of M, Mpls. Campus. Obtained a PhD in Religion and Culture at Syracuse U, taught in the Philosophy and Religious Studies Dept at Mercy Hurst College in Erie from 1979 to 1997. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Louise Welter Garrelts; 2 sons, Steven (Sarah), Brooklyn, NY, and Gerard (Katie), Columbus, OH. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini in Mpls on Wed., July 23rd at 8:00 pm. All are invited.
