O'Brien John Thomas, 90, of Honolulu, HI and Woodstock, IL. Died June 13, 2002 in Woodstock. He was born November 02, 1911 to Timothy Luke & Helen Mary (Sullivan) O'Brien in Thief River Falls, MN. He married Ada Marie Bennett on February 27, 1943. Mr. O'Brien served in the Army Reserves and was awarded two bronze stars during WWII. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He was an Ocean Engineer specializing in Wind, Waves and Data for the California Institute of Technology and Port Huenume in California. He also was a Professor at the University of Hawaii, and was director of the Universities Look Laboratory. He is survived by his wife, a son, John T. O'Brien Jr., a daughter, Nancy (Ben) Phillips, three grandchildren, Ben III, Matthew, and Owen Phillips; and a brother, Ken O'Brien. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at 11 AM, at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 503 W. Jackson St. in Woodstock, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the University of Minnesota School of Engineering would be appreciated. Call the funeral home at 815-338-1710 for info.
