Schmidt, William "Bill" Arthur age 54, of Zimmerman, died peacefully on Saturday, December 24 at North Memorial Hospice Residence in Brooklyn Center after a three-year courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born January 6, 1951, to Jeanne A. (Angus) and Raymond C. Schmidt at Asbury Hospital in Minneapolis. He graduated in 1969 from Southwest High School in Minneapolis. He worked for a pipeline and station contractor, Minnesota Limited, Inc. of Rogers, for 24 years, and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #49 Union for 21 years. He enjoyed his home on Lake Fremont in Zimmerman and was an avid boater. He enjoyed all sports, especially hockey and golf. In his last months he was able to attend a Minnesota Wild hockey game with his daughter, which he loved every minute of. Bill's family would like to thank his oncologist Dr. Steven Rousey, Fairview Southdale Hospital 8th floor staff, and North Memorial Hospice Residence staff for all their love and care. Preceded in death by his father, Raymond C. Schmidt. Survived by mother, Jeanne A. Schmidt of Minnetonka; daughter, Miki (Scott) Tufto and granddaughter Regan Schmidt of Minnetonka; sisters, Linda (Bobb) Hartkopf of Minnetonka, and Barbara (Wally Adkins) Schmidt of Sarasota, FL; brother, Greg Schmidt of Minnetonka; niece, Chrissy Schmidt and daughter Amaya of Elk River. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Friday at Gearty-Delmore Plymouth Chapel, 37th Avenue & Vicksburg. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday at Gearty-Delmore, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
