Fernstrom, Eugene Arthur Went home with God on Sunday, February 22, 2015 in Maple Grove. Born July 22, 1937 in St. Cloud, MN. Preceded in death by parents: Harry & Lidwina (Schwartz) Fernstrom. Gene graduated from De La Salle High School in 1955 and received an A.A. Degree from the U of MN. He loved aviation and at 18 tried to enlist in the USAF, but because of his physical disabilities they said, "Son, we're not that desperate", so he spent 33 years with the US Postal Service. He started as a letter sorter and was promoted to supervisor of finance. In finance he got to travel all over the state, North Dakota & Washington, DC. He worked on many interesting assignments, auditing postal operations, swearing in Postmasters (including his daughter Katie), worked in the engineering department, assisted in the expansion of the Main Office. He was the Treasurer and then President of the National Assn. of Postal Supervisors in Mpls. (350 supervisors). After retiring as Manager in Finance in 1992, Gene & Winnie enjoyed wintering in Casa Grande, AZ for 20 years. He also loved singing in various choirs for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Winnie; daughters: Katie Olson, Karin Moldenhauer (Gordon) and son, Christopher Fernstrom; 6 grandsons: Brian (Amy) & Patrick Mills, Geoffrey (Maria) & Erik Moldenhauer, Zachary & Tyler Olson; great-grandson, Matthew Moldenhauer.
