Gernes Charles H., age 81, of New London, died Friday. Charles H. Gernes was born Nov. 2, 1921 in Winona. In 1949, he married Patricia Dejno. In 1951, he began work for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service,serving at stations in Manchester, IA, training school at Cortland, NY, Neosho, MO, Crawford, NE, training school at Marion, AL, Hebron, OH, and New London, MN, where he retired in 1983 as a Fisheries Scientist. After retirement, he returned to seasonal employment with the MN DNR in New London, retiring finally in 1989. Chuck was active at the state division and president of the New London Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. Charles is survived by his children, Mary (Jerry) Hill of Lake City, MN, Kathy (Terry) Froemming of Hutchinson, MN, John (Sharon) Gernes of Hudson, WI, Mark (Carole) Gernes of Maplewood; 10 grandchildren and sister, Jane Peplinski of Winona. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Wed. at the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, near Spicer. Visitation 5-8 PM Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Inurnment will be held 11 AM Saturday, JULY 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Winona. Johnson Funeral Home New London, MN 320-354-2211
