Wiik Edward M. Wiik, age 88, of Mpls, on July 5, 2003. Preceded in death by sister, Mary Peterson of CA. Survived by wife, Wanda; sons, John (Susan) of Shoreview, Jim (Dianne) of Taylors Falls; granddaughters, Katherine Wiik of Cambridge, MA and Kristen Wiik of Shoreview; also 1 nephew, 3 nieces. Ed's military service included Air Service Command duty during WWII in the South Pacific and 24 years, USAR, from which he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Ed earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of MN in 1939 and was a licensed professional engineer. He later earned a Master's of Public Health from the U of M. During his career, Ed helped establish the air pollution control programs for the City of Minneaoplis and the State of Minnesota. He retired from the State of Minnesota as Director of Air Quality for the Pollution Control Agency. Ed was also known to many through seventy years of active involvement in amateur radio with the call letters W0UGP. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society, or donor's choice. Service Friday, July 11, 11 AM at Edgewater Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 5144 13th Ave S., Mpls, with visitation 1 hour prior, and Thurs., 5:30-7:30 PM at: Washburn-McReavy Nokomis Park Chapel 1838 E.
