Johnson Irene Mae Johnson, who lived much of her life in the Mpls area, died on June 8, 2003 after a brief illness. Beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irene Mae Riplinger Johnson was born in Duluth on December 27, 1926, and grew up in Spooner, WI. After graduating from the Minnesota School of Business, she married Frank G. Johnson, also of Spooner, WI. They lived in Coon Rapids and eventually Two Harbors, MN, and Bell Air Bluffs, FL. Irene's final abode was Walnut Creek, CA, near her children, Paul, David, and Carole, and their families. Her beloved daughter Mary predeceased her. Irene was a strong feminist, deft pianist and singer, connoisseur of classical and rag-time music, and accomplished watercolorist. She is a large and kind spirit who leaves joy in many hearts. The family celebrated her life at a memorial at East Bay Church of Religious Science in Oakland, CA on June 14. Another celebration will be held in Spooner on Saturday, July 5, 2003 from 3 to 6 PM at the home of Carole Sorenson, 609 Walter Street. The family requests donation in her memory to your local Hospice organization.
