Madson, Kay L. (Hanenburg) age 74, of Minneapolis, passed away on January 21, 2015. Kay was special to so many people and will forever be known for her caring and loving ways. She is survived by and will be greatly missed by husband of 52 years, Greg, children Christine Warner (Mark), Susan Felbab (Cary) and Gregory Madson (Paulette), and precious grandchildren Nate (Steph), Lindsay, Sarah, Alex, Elizabeth, Sam, Cassie, Logan and Kaitlyn. Preceded in death by parents Jacob J. and A. LaVerne Hanenburg, and brother Jerry Hanenburg. Kay grew up in Ogilvie and Mora, MN. After high school she attended Augsburg College where she met Greg, and majored in Sociology. Greg and Kay were married after college and moved to the Chicago area, where Kay was a social caseworker, while Greg was stationed there in the Fifth Army headquarters. Upon returning to Minnesota, she taught part-time at the University of Minnesota and Augsburg College, while completing her Master's degree from the U of MN. She spent a number of years at home while her children were young, and returned to teaching at Concordia University-St. Paul as an adjunct professor (1983). It was also in 1983 that she started classes for her Ph.D. in Sociology, which she completed at the U of MN. Kay was a Professor in Sociology, Chair of the Social Sciences department (1990-93) and also served as Executive Vice President of Concordia University (1993-2001). She officially retired in 2007, but continued to teach part-time until recently. Kay was active at Christ Church Lutheran where she previously served as President of the congregation and spent many years as a member of the choir. She and Greg traveled and visited many places throughout the US, and also Europe, Mexico, India, China, Costa Rica and Thailand. Of all of her joys, though, the greatest was her grandchildren. She hosted summer "Grandma Camps" and sleepovers when the grandchildren were younger, the annual "Cookie Day" in December and planned many extended family vacations and events. Funeral service on Saturday, January 31st at 11 am at Christ Church Lutheran, 3244 34th Ave South, Minneapolis, with luncheon following. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Christ Church Lutheran, Concordia University-St Paul or charity of choice.
