Swanson In Loving Memory of Phyllis G. Swanson (Gillespie), age 88, of Apple Valley, passed away on May 29. Preceded in death by husband, Morris C. Swanson. Survived by 3 sons, Robert, Daniel and Dennis; 4 daughters, Gail, Jerilynn, Kandice and Carol; special friend, Jacque and cat, Penny. Also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as more than 350 foster children who shared the Swanson household over many years. Phyllis worked as a salaried employee of Strutwear Knitting Co., where she met and later married Morris. After Strutwear closed, she was a homemaker and worked part-time at Dayton's. Phyllis took great pride in her family and her home on 2nd Avenue S. in Richfield, where the family lived for many years. She raised a large garden, and canned and preserved the results of her labor. Her home was never without a yard full of kids, pets, flowers and shrubs. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Phyllis had a sharp wit and always enjoyed a spirited political debate. She enjoyed adventure and the outdoors. In her youth, she would often go flying with local stunt pilots who were logging in their hours. She loved to fish, an interest encouraged by her stepfather and would often take her own family fishing in the early hours of the morning. Phyllis also had a keen interest in all types of needlework, including knitting, crochet, needlepoint and crewelwork. Holidays were often graced with special gifts including afghans, sweaters, needlepoint pictures and latch hook rugs, all beautifully crafted and given with love. Phyllis was always willing to share her knowledge and talent to teach the next generation how to make a broomstick lace afghan, or to share a special recipe. She was an avid reader and shared her books generously with family and friends. Her spirit and wit will be missed by friends and family alike. Service 12:30 pm Tuesday, June 4 at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 15033 S. Hwy 13, Prior Lake. Visitation one hour prior to the service, with a luncheon to follow the service.
