Bateman Ellen J. Bateman, age 83, of Wayzata. Died April 12, 2003. Preceded in death by husband, William; brother, Harold Hansen; sister- in-law, Muriel Hansen. Survived by sister, Solway Smith of Wayzata; nieces, Jan Kaster of Burnsville, Pam (Ralph) Torres of Pasadena, CA, Patty (Rico) Montenegro of Anderson, CA; nephew, Jim (Merry Ann) Hansen of Oak- ridge, TN; many grand nieces & nephews, relatives & friends. A native Wayzatan, Ellen was the daughter of Norwegian immigrants, Aagot & Olav Hansen. Ellen served her country as a member of the Women's Army Air Corps in WW II, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. Ellen later worked in the travel industry, enabling her to visit many exciting places and entertain others with stories about them; Ellen was a supreme story-teller with a great memory. Ellen was a long-time resident of Denver, CO, returning home to Minnesota in her later years. Ellen will be remembered for her energy, sense of adventure, humor, generosity and loving care of family members. Her bright smile and warm heart touched all who had the good fortune to know her. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, a fitting resting place near the mountains she so loved. Memorial service at 2 pm Tuesday, June 3, Wayzata Community Church. A bench inscribed in Ellen's name will be placed near Lake Minnetonka in Wayzata. Memorial gifts should be designated for Ellen Bateman's Memorial Bench and sent to Wayzata Community Foundation, PO Box 222, Wayzata, MN 55391. Thanks to the caring staff at Fairview Ridges, Masonic Home, and Carefree Living, and to the gals at Ellen's table at Carefree, whose company she enjoyed since last November.
