Schmidt Joyce Lorraine, passed away April 7, 2005, at the Gallatin Rest Home in Bozeman, MT. She was born October 27, 1920, in Greene, N.D. to John L. and Roberta M. Johnson. Joyce graduated from Osakis High School in 1937 and from the Minneapolis Business College in 1939. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1944-1946 at Hunter's College in N.Y., Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, and Washington, D.C. on Admiral King's Staff. Joyce met her husband, Don Schmidt, also in the Navy, at a USO dance in Stillwater. Joyce and Don married on June 1, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. Joyce's greatest delight was her family. Joyce dedicated her extra time to serving her church and TTT, while also working as a secretary. Joyce's vivacious personality and infectious laugh lit up a room. Her tender spirit helped ease many a heavy load. Joyce cherished her friends and embraced them as family. She had a huge heart for all and not an enemy in this world. She lived her life by the Bible verse "Do unto other's as you would have them do unto you." Those that knew Joyce best would describe her as a classy lady, big hearted, kind, tender, empathetic, cheerful, fun, and determined. She walked through life with a smile on her face and prayers in her heart. All were proud to call her wife, mother, grandma, friend, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, or co-worker. The staff of the Gallatin Rest Home became part of Joyce's family for the past eight plus years. There was no better place for Joyce to be as she struggled through her physical decline with Parkinson's Disease. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Don Schmidt and their children, Mike, Jean, Bill, Barbara and their families, including several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bozeman United Methodist Church, Bozeman, MT. Her remains will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Inc., 710 W. 168th St., NY, NY 10032-9982, or to the organization of the giver's choice.
