During World War II, he was a design engineer for Convair in San Diego, CA, designing parts for planes. After the war, he returned to Iowa, and then to Minnesota where he became Assistant Chief Engineer for Scott-Atwater Outboard Motor Co. in Minneapolis, and then Chief Engineer for Farwell Metal Fabricating Co. in St. Paul, MN. All his life, Byron was a lover of music. He learned to play several instruments, with the pipe organ being his main interest. He designed and had built in North Oaks a home in which he installed one of the largest (five-manual) and most beautiful Wurlitzer theatre pipe organs ever built. He was a church organist for most of his life, and was also active in the American Theatre Organ Society. A family burial will be private. Since Byron was active at Grace Church Roseville, the memorial service will be Friday, April 1, 2005, 11 a.m., at Grace Church, 1310 W. County Road B-2, Roseville, MN, with visitation one hour previous to service. Instead of flowers, family prefers memorials to the Foreign Missions Fund at Grace Church, Roseville, to Crown College in St. Bonifacius, MN, or to donor's choice.
