McCarthy 1925-2005 Milan Eugene McCarthy (Resident of Greenwood on Lake Minnetonka) died peacefully at age 79 at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 12, 2005. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Quinn wife of Tim Quinn and his parents, J. Fred and Charlotte R. McCarthy. Milan was schooled at St. Thomas Military academy ROTC, and the University of St. Thomas. He proudly served in W.W.II as a naval aviator from 1943-1947, after the war Milan returned to the family business, McCarthy Well Company, one of the nations oldest and largest water supply companies (since 1860) as its president and mentor to his sons until he retired in 1995. Milan was a member of the Lake Minnetonka Yacht Club, Sierra Club of St. Paul, Lafayette Club of Minnetonka, and Young Presidents Organization- Twin Cities Chapter. He was an avid outdoorsman and a ILYA championship sailor. Milan is survived by loving wife, Mary Durham Lenihan McCarthy of 45 years and his four children, Tim & his wife Brigid, Mike & his wife Sharon, Kathy & her husband Tony and Pat as well as his grandchildren Malia, Miles, Morgan, Ryan and Nicholas and many loving family and friends. We thank his physician Dr. George Morrison for his compassionate medical care over the years. Milan's greatest blessing from God was his family. He gave them gifts of time, humor & love; the greatest gifts living. We will miss him dearly and celebrate his life. We love you. "Bon voyage to heaven". Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill Street, Excelsior. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service at church.
